IRS and New Jersey Tax Problem Help in Bergen County
A letter from the IRS or the State of New Jersey has a deadline printed on it, and the options narrow once that date passes. We represent you directly before the IRS, the New Jersey Division of Taxation and New York State, so you never have to make that call yourself.
Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm, weekends 11am to 5pm. After hours, book a time.
Problems we resolve
Whatever the envelope says.
Notices and letters
CP2000 underreported-income notices, balance-due notices and notices of intent to levy, answered before the date printed on them.
Audits
Correspondence, office and field examinations. We assemble the support and speak for you.
Unfiled returns
One year or many, federal and state. We rebuild the records and get every year filed.
Back taxes and payment plans
Installment agreements and other arrangements, matched to what you can actually pay.
Offers in compromise
Settling for less than the full balance when you qualify. We run the IRS's own calculation first, so you know whether an offer is worth filing.
Levies, garnishments and liens
Stopping or releasing a bank levy or wage garnishment, and getting a federal tax lien released or withdrawn.
Payroll tax problems
Unpaid payroll taxes and the trust fund recovery penalty, which can make owners personally liable.
Penalty abatement
First-time abatement and reasonable-cause requests, with the facts laid out the way the IRS wants them.
Innocent spouse relief
Relief from tax on a joint return when the problem belongs to your spouse or former spouse.
New Jersey and New York
State notices, audits and assessments, including sales tax audits, handled alongside the federal side.
How representation works
Three steps, and you make none of the calls.
You authorize us
You sign a power of attorney, IRS Form 2848, online. From then on we deal with the IRS for you.
We pull the record
We get your IRS transcripts and see exactly what is on file, which is often different from what the letter implies.
We respond and resolve
We file what is missing, dispute what is wrong and arrange terms for what is owed.
I had a few years of unfiled tax returns that needed to be filed & I was very worried & unsure about it. Kevin handled the situation like a professional, smooth and seamless.
Common questions
Before you call anyone.
Should I call the IRS myself?
You can, but anything you say becomes part of the record. It is usually better to have a representative review the notice first.
I have not filed in years. How bad is it?
It is more common than people think, and it is fixable. We rebuild the records, file each year and then deal with any balance.
Can you stop a levy or wage garnishment?
Often, yes. Once we represent you, we can ask the IRS to hold collection while a payment plan or other resolution is set up. Move quickly: a bank levy freezes the funds for 21 days before the bank sends them to the IRS.
Do I qualify for an offer in compromise?
Only if the IRS agrees you cannot pay the full balance, based on your income, expenses and assets. Many people who hear the radio ads do not qualify. We run the numbers before you pay the application fee.
Can penalties be removed?
Often. The IRS has a first-time abatement policy for taxpayers with a clean recent history, and it removes penalties where there was reasonable cause.
How is this billed?
IRS and New Jersey tax problem work is billed hourly. We scope the work in the first consultation.
